I am trying to build a website for my mother-in-law.
I downloaded "html-kit" and used it.
I plan on cleaning up the appearance of the code, but was wondering if the
tags and all looked ok?
As of right now, none of the links work. All I have done so far is just the
main page. Will work on it more in the morning.
Right now it is on Geocities, but the finished product will not be!
Anything that I should do different? Suggestions?
Also, is there a way to check for browser cross-compatibility, other than
just loading it in different browsers myself?
Thanks a million...
Chuck

Geocities is almost guaranteed the kiss-O-death, but I'll look ...
* Hideous GeoCrappy banner
* Pseudocode popup ad
* NONE of the images are working <- definately your fault
Yup, standard Geocrappy page.
Until you learn some/any HTML you probably shouldn't post sites here for
review. You wouldn't bring plain hot dogs to a cooking club, would you?

The ONLY reason it is on Geocities is because I have no other place to put
it at the moment. I just wanted to get it on the net so I could get some
opinions.
I know that GC sucks. I know they have banner ads, and I cant help that. I'm
not going to pay for a GC site.
Hopefully, I have corrected the image problem.
I know this will just get someone with your attitude going, but I have been
writing HTML for several years using notepad. I'm not
saying that I am an expert by any means though, but I do know the basics of
HTML.
I though that this NG was here to help. You know, constructive criticism.
That's why I posted here, but I guess that I was wrong.
Sorry that I made you reply to my post.
Hmmmm.... "Farlo". Added to my list of arrogant posters.
Thanks...

your markup clearly shows that is not the case. your markup is very poor
and shows you have very little understanding of HTML, if any at all.
if you're going to bullshit at least try to make it sound believable.

Ok, but do you understand the terms you're using? Do you know why they're
important/useful? Have you worked out that "When in Rome ..." applies
equally on usenet as in real life.
Didn't Earthlink provide you with a guide to usenet?

LOL: When the time comes for you to please brucie, you will have little (if
any) control over even the most trivial of things like which way is up.

Nice clean look to the site.
Initial thoughts:
(1) set the alternative text on both balloon.gif to ALT=""
(2) set the alternative text on krklogo.gif to ALT="Kids R Kids Quality
Learning Centers"
(3) set the alternative text on the final image to ALT="KIDS R KIDS: 40
YEARS OF QUALITY"
Note: non-visual browser users will know that this is a link, but users
of visual browsers won't.
(4) set the alternative text on school2.jpeg to 'PHOTO: xxxxxxxxxx'
where xxxxxxxx is a meaningful description (or you could just set it to
ALT="")
(5) drop the "/>" at the end of tags; reset them to ">"
(6) In:
".....Our Kids 'R' Kids "state-of-the-art" childcare facility was
designed specifically for children
children ages 6 weeks up to 12 years old. ....."
you have either got a duplicate 'children' or you need a punctuation
mark after the first 'children' (comma or dash)
There's probably a few others -- but that will do for now ;-)
regards.

I'm no HTML guru, Chuck, but I've been using Earthlink for years, and you
appear to be posting through them. For each of your email identities at
Earthlink, you have free space at your disposal. Plain space. No banners,
no nothing -- just your own work. *If* my memory serves me, each one can be
up to 10 MB. Is this too small for your project?

Hey Blinky...
You are right.
I am using Earthlink and they do provide 8 accounts with 10MB each if I
remember correctly.
I have 2 of my accounts full and don't want to open and use another account
just for this temporary project. That's why I went with GC.

Try www.1and1.com PHP, mysql & 500mb of space. Where you sign-up it's slow but your
site will be fast.
