Author Redesign without tables for layout
Zak McGregor

Hi all

I am in the process of converting my existing site into a table-less
layout effort. I have a few isues to sort out still - like absolutely no
degradability in NN4.x, right-hand column overlapping the middle content
under 800px wide resolution. I will not be using the <abbr>...</abbr> tags
out of bandwidth considerations . All links & forms will work, but will
take you to the old look site (ie the currently-working version).

Any thoughts on the design please? Also, any ideas on how to not get the
right-hand side to overlap on smaller screensizes please?

Thanks

Ciao

Zak

Hide the stylesheet from it. There are several techniques about. One would
be to link to the stylesheet with media="screen, projection" which Netscape
4.x doesn't understand, so ignores.

Some observations:

-It has nice elements, but it's jumbled looking. Too much is going on. There
needs to be a main area of focus when someone looks at your page.
-Nice graphic.
-Good subduedcolor scheme, except for the blue in the left column, which
looks odd.
-In IE 6, the text is too large for me on the smallest setting.
-Logo is too close to the edge of the screen

Get some templates from the Internet to work with while you're learning.
People here will recommend specific sites, like David Dorward's. Good luck.

Better still, supply a second stylesheet that Netscape 4.x can
understand so that *some* of the original styling can be preserved
(that's if you consider that there's still a large enough audience to
warrant it).

Your "Quick Search" falls apart quite badly in MSIE 5.0 (Win).
