ALARM netscape 8 XML rendering problems?
|
|
| cybarber 2005-05-22, 7:35 am |
| I have XML and XSLT rendering problems in IE6 sp2(winxp prof sp2 dutch)
after installing Netscape 8.
This is really really BAD.
My XML files are no longer XSLT transformed using an inline processing
instruction after installing Netscape 8. Also an XML file is not shown in
IE6 (with the default XSLT template).
I have installed netscape 8, twice now with explicitly not selecting the
option to use IE rendering machine for certain pages.
After the first time(three days ago) I did a sytem reset to an earlier point
before Netscape 8.
Problem solved.
Yesterday, again installed netscape 8(didn't expect the problem was due to
Netscape 8) again XML rendering problems
Again a sytem reset and the problem was solved.
Noticed (http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum26/163.htm) others have this
problem aswell.
Netscape was dead and now I will bury it so deep It will never surface.
Internet Explore (7?) is all I need.
I am really PI...d off.

| What do you expect from something made by AOL? Get Firefox, the real
"Netscape".

What sort of "system reset" did you use? I've got the problem and tried all
kinds of reloadings and the problem still remains.
Could Microsoft help us please? Netscape has crippled MS IE6, I'd hope MS
would be concerned.

| Used the sandard windowsXP system recovery wizard.
(reset winxp to the version it had before installing Netscape 8)

| Yes uninstalling netscape didnot recover the XML/XSLT rendering functions,
so I did a system reset to the configuartion befor installing Netscape 8.

| Hi,
I have the same problem you described with XML and NS 8.0... I first
believed this problem was related to the spyware/virus attack on my PC
last week...
Where do you find the "windows XP system recovery wizard"? Will that
affect the files I created after I installed NS 8.0?
Cheers

Maybe this is the plan by AOL to finally win the "browser wars"? Or is it
just pay-back time for M$ after what they did to Netscape? :-)

Unfortunately, I'm on Windows 2000. And, I've unloaded Netscape and its
friends several times, so I'm not sure the "last good system" avoids the
problem.

| System Restore was the only way I could get IE back to normal.
I tried, Uninstalling Netscape. Installing the MSXML SP2. Restarting
numerous times. Checking XML file types were associated with IE. Checking
MSXML entries in registry.
That's the last time I'm using Netscape! Microsoft, you might want to take a
look at this one!!!

You're not talking to MS here. These are peer support newsgroups. If
you want to communicate to MS see this link:

| Wake up to yourself. Netscape isn't dead. IE has been dead for years and
will never likely to be resurrected.

I OTOH like new Netscape (UI, more accessible tab options,
ability to use IE engine in one tab and Firefox engine in the other one).
BTW, you can solve the problem with XML by deleting
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.xml
You can do this automatically by saving following text as "repair netscape
xml.reg"
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.xml]
and then running command:
regedit /s "repair netscape xml.reg"
