Router on home network

| I want to break out my RR connection into some subnets, has anyone tried this? My linksys, has DHCP set up, and I set my port from my CISCO router to the IP address assigned from my LINKSYS, but still couldn't ping? Any suggestions | |

| Haven't tried, but I don't know why it won't work.
Basic assumptions:
1. You're using a crossover cable unless you're using the uplink port on the Linksys.
2. You have a good cable and link lights at each end.
You don't need DHCP from the Linksys since you're assigning the router's IP address yourself. Make sure the Linksys and the router have different IP addresses on the same subnet and that the router interface is ON (no shutdown). You should be able to ping the router IP interface from the router CLI, and if so, you should be able to ping the Linksys.
You will have to enable either RIP or IGRP on the router to connect the inside networks to the Linksys.

| .102 would be the host portion of the address. 192.168.1 is the network part of the address.(since your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, that is what you are asking right?) I would go back and make sure you didn't make a dumb error anywhere and entered an address in incorrectly since it seems as if everything you did is correct. | |

| Thanks I'll set it up again this weekend, (don't stop posting, if you folks have some other ideas, or any other neat stuff I should try at home)

| the linksys will run rip v1 or 2
i've done it.
i think it even sent a default route to my router. |
