Author Linking Word and Excel documents to open using word or excel

I'm trying to create an intranet for my company and I want to 'hyperlink' a
word or excel document that opens using the program that it was created with,
not internet explorer. Is there a way I can get the documents to open
outside of internet explorer using the original program?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply but I still cannot get this to work trying numerous
methods. Is there a way I can edit the .htm file using notepad to have it
open using excel instead of explorer. Here's an example of the code:

EN;mso-ansi-language:EN'><a
href="file:///P:\QMS\CUSTOMER%20INSPECTION%20FORMS\ATTACH-B.XLS">S
SUPPLIER INVENTORY ATTACHMENT B</a></span><span

I do not know what I would need to edit to change the code so it opens as an
external .xls file.

Is this at all possible or is there an easier way?

Thanks.

Sorry, as I believe the article said, if a plug-in is in IE, it will open in
IE. It also said, that if you zip the file, you can workaround that fact.
There may be someway you can edit the code, but I am not aware of it.
