What can be done to fix this?

When I attempted to put a document into pdf format, the final result
was two different files with one listed after the other in the same
pdf document.

I tried it from both a website and from my own Word document, using
both firefox and microsoft browsers.

So far no response from Adobe in their forum.

Sounds like you use the "append to file" function, and added the second file
to the first.

Can you post your web site? It might help to see what is happening.
