Author create drop down box

I want to use publisher to create a website because I think the others (like
dreamweaver) are too hard.

I really need a drop down box - any ideas? I looked at the 1 other post -
but it didn't answer my question. Thank you...

brenda,

Not enough information. What kind of drop down box? What are you trying to
do? And before you get too far along realize that by going with Publisher
you are going to be limited with what you can do in a web site. With "easy"
comes tradeoffs. Read this article:

The article is informative, thank you for that.

I guess I want to for example: have services.... and under the services I
would do hardscape, softscape, pools., etc...

Is front page hard to work in or is it similar to Publisher? I downloaded a
trial of dreamweaver and I am pulling my hair out!!

thank you! Brenda

Are you wanting a drop down menu, or a box on your page where you can scroll
and select the service, and that will link you to that page on your site? If
you want a drop down, or flyout menu, google for dhtml menus, javascript
menus, etc. You would use the insert html code fragment box to insert the
code that you find. There is no built-in support for this in Publisher. If
you want the box, post back.

Most people that have used Publisher for some time to produce print
documents find it very easy to produce a web site with Publisher. Most
people probably find FrontPage more difficult to learn at first, but it has
fewer limitations and is designed for web building. And the new Expression
Web that will be coming out in the near future will be one of the programs
that replaces FrontPage.

It all depends on what your goals for your website are. If you want a
simple, small static website, then you will find Publisher adequate for the
job. However, the more dynamic functions you want to include, the more
limited Publisher will be. The same is true if you anticipate building a
large site. If you have realistic expectations, then Publisher can be a good
tool, but FrontPage, Expression, Dreamweaver and other such programs are
built specifically for web building...and thus are a better choice if you
want something more sophisticated.

Brenda,

Try Serif WebPlus. It's similar to Publisher (it's an offshoot of
PagePlus which is very similar to Pub, but geared toward Internet
design) costs a heck of a lot less than Dreamweaver or Expressions ($80
but you can probably negotiate a lower price) and is easy to learn and
use. If you have questions about it, e-mail me.
