What have they done to the 2007 Publisher? Clicking Hypelinks takes 55
seconds for the dialog box to open then 50 seconds to action the link. And as
for Design Checker, I can go and have my lunch, go shopping and visit the
cinema and it is still doing its job. Meanwhile the computer is almost
unusable.
OK, I know I shouldn't be using Publisher for a web site of some 200 pages
but it wasn't at all like this in the 2003 version.

Is this for just your large website file, or does it occur with all files? I
haven't heard of anyone else having this problem, nor can I reproduce it.
Pub 2007 might take a moment or two longer to open, but I attributed that to
the new, more graphic intensive interface. Files open equally, as does the
hyperlink dialog box. Perhaps it is something running in the background that
is sucking up resources?

Had another thought...Go to Tools > Options and the Save tab. What happens
if you uncheck the Save options?

I have only one other publication, that one has only four pages and the
hyperlinks come up immediately so I think the problem must be that Publisher
checks all the pages for hyperlinks before opening the dialog. And, as I
remarked before, Design Checker' takes forever. In the 2003 version both
these features worked perfectly so it is something that has been changed.

p.s. unchecking the Save box didn't make any difference.

I don't have any other explanation, if nothing else has changed on your
computer other than the version of Publisher. However, I do suspect it has
to do with the particular file and/or the size of that file. I suppose that
you could check on updated video drivers...but I really don't know why the
file is so slow.

If you haven't already, I would certainly suggest doing a backup, and
perhaps a Save As a new name to see if that would help.

I would also suggest that you consider breaking the file up into
multiple/smaller Pub files. This might solve your problem if it is a size
issue, and it would likely make managing such a large site easier.

David suggests a way to do it and keep all the files in one folder on your
host. Personally I prefer using subfolders and saving my web files in the
default way of an index.htm "main page" rather than naming the pages. I find
it less confusing, but either way, it might help you to work around the
problem you are having by breaking up the large file into two or more files.

If you ever discover why your file is so slow, please post back and let us
know.
