Author creating a calendar

Happy holidays to all. I have searched the posts and cant find an answer to 2
specific issues I am having. First I have been using Pub 2002 on 1 machine
and Pub 2003 on another to try to make this work. I am looking to do a 12
month calendar---the person can click next month/ previous month--for my
religious organizations website. Using Pub wizard, it seems like I can do one
month at a time, and when I use Calendar Creator 12 Deluxe, I can import it
into the web folder/index files to upload to my server.

Can anyone help me or give me suggestions?

thanks

Stickman,

Create 12 different pages and upload those. Also, turn each calendar
into an image. For February, put the image of January on the left hand
side and March on the right hand with a hyperlink to the full page view.

Or...

Download WebCalendar and install it. You can write in it, look forward
to 2037 if you wish and it has pop-up windows for a description of an
event, set it to send out reminders. I use it on my church's page.

the 2nd one sounds easier. is WebCalendar easy to import and use as part of
Publisher or will I run into similar problems of what I'm trying to do with
Calendar Creator?

thanks again

p.s. do you have a link to your church's site so I can see how Webcalendar
looks?

thanks again

Stickman,

WebCalendar installed automatically as part of the Fantastico package my
web host offers. It might be a piece of cake or a PITA to install,
depending on your programming knowledge if it isn't automatically installed.

Try www.stjamesotv.com/calendar.html

I used an i-frame so I could keep my Master Page items without having to
edit the PHP code. The i-frame was long enough to avoid the scroll bar
until I added some events. If I just wasn't so lazy, I would redo the
web page!

thanks for the input and nice job on the site. I assume it was easy to
import the programs calendar into the page/site you made with publisher?

Excuse me for butting in here, but WebCalendar is a PHP based program, that
was easy for Mike because it is part of the Fantastico package. If your host
offers Fantastico, then it could be relatively easy for you...if not...then
not easy, unless you know how to create a PHP database on your webhost.

Since you already have purchased Calendar Creator, you will probably find it
easier to work with. According to the website it can save the calendars in a
variety of formats including jpeg and html. You could insert the jpeg copy
of each months calendar into a publisher web page, or you could upload the
html output to a subfolder on your web host, and link to it from your main
website. I would imagine that using the html output would give superior
results.

And by the way, don't switch back and forth between Pub 2002 and 2003 to
produce your website. You will have problems. Use Pub 2003, and if you elect
to insert a jpg version of the calendar into your Publisher pages, then be
sure to optimize and size the images for the web before you insert them, or
at the least compress them: Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller

happy holidays to all to start. Now, this may be a stupid question but I
created a subfolder on the server that hosts the site but once everything has
been uploaded how do I go in and create a link to the subfolder on my site?
Whe I go to open the page it opens as a web page and I cant seem to edit
while in the server.

I am not very good at technical things but have managed a simple site for us
but with many pages so keep it simple.

Stickman,

You will need to edit your Publisher page then upload the files again.

As Mike suggested, you will need to make your edits in the main Publisher
document, create new html files and upload those. The links to your calendar
page from your Publisher page would look something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/calender/index.htm

That is assuming that the calendar subfolder is at the same level as your
index_files folder, and that your calendar page uses the index.htm as the
default. Another way to write the link correctly is to just browse to it,
copy the URL from the address, and then paste it in the hyperlink address.

Thanks for the input and of course I'm still having problems. Guess I'm not
very good at this.

I tried uploading files in different ways to the server--I made a seperate
folder but all thats in there is the cc file and I even have all the
individual 12 months seperately in the index files folder but cant figure out
a way to create a link without it beginning with ftp:....... which is the
server location of the file and when I try to view it, the page can not be
displayed.

My sites current calendar page is
http://www.bnaiisraeltomsriver.org/...es/page0001.htm

but somehow would like to display the CC file on that page... am I
helpless and missing something obvious?

thanks to everybody trying to help this lost soul

I don't use Calendar Creator, which I assume is what you mean by CC file,
but from looking at the website it said that the output could be either JPG
(images) or html. Assuming that you used html, then you probably have an
index.htm file that was produced along with the other pages and supporting
images....much like Publisher does. You can check this yourself by
generating the CC files to your hard drive and then looking at them.

Assuming that you do indeed have an index.htm file, and that you created a
subfolder called "calendar" on your website in the root directory right
alongside your Publisher index.htm file and index_files folder, and uploaded
all your CC files to that folder, then you would write/insert a hyperlink
from any page on your site, including your current calendar page as such:
http://www.bnaiisraeltomsriver.org/calendar/index.htm
If you put your CC files somewhere else, then just change the path of the
link. Make sure you don't have any spaces and match upper and lower case in
the link.

Stickman,

Not an answer to your question, per se, but does your web host by chance
offer Fantastico? If so, it can automatically install WebCalendar, a
great addition. You can list events directly in it, with pop-ups that
contain detailed info, including links to web pages. Using an iframe,
you can even place it on a page and keep your banners and such.

Even if you don't have Fantastico, you can still install it yourself,
but you will have to do some tweaking.
