Hi I am creating a newsletter with publisher....but the size is way to
big due to the graphics/Pics! Is there a way to link picutes to reduce
the size of the email?

can i convert my publisher document to HTML and link in another
program?

Cynthia,

I presume that you are trying to create a newsletter that you can email
people. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but be advised that
if you convert your email to HTML, then the receiver will have to have
their email client HTML enabled. Sometimes it is easier to just convert the
newsletter to a PDF file, and attach it. That would reduce the file size
significantly. A free PDF tool can be obtained at www.primopdf.com

If you don't want to go the pdf route, then here are some reference articles
for you.

Note you can only send a single page, and be sure to go to Tools > Options >
web tab and untick "send entire publication as an image..."

And if you want to reduce your images and optimize them for the web, and
need more info. about that post back and I'll help. Also then tell me if you
have a web site, as creating a simple one page newsletter that links to your
website is probably the best of all worlds.

Thank you! I am going to take a look at the links you sent. I have
been trying to resolve this problem by transferring the file to
Dreamweaver (ran into a ton of problems there! My images wont link at
all!)

Cynthia,

First of all, to the best of my knowledge you cannot link images to a
newsletter that you send as a HTML message, which only works with Outlook
and OE. Sorry if that wasn't clear. You can reduce the size of the images
before you insert them into your Publisher document, which might reduce the
file size of a email newsletter. Are you trying to send your newsletter as
an email message?

Secondly, are you trying to send a multipage newsletter? If so, you can only
send one page as a HTML message. If you want to pursue the idea of sending
your multipage newsletter as one page, let me know and I can walk you
through a workaround, but you would be better off sending a multipage
newsletter as a PDF attachment.

As you do have a website, a better way to create and send a HTML newsletter
message, in my opinion, is to use one of the Publisher email newsletter
template formats. They are single pages, formatted in a better width for
email, and they include "more details" links that send the reader to your
website for most of the content of your newsletter. You don't use a lot of
images in these newsletters and thus you keep the file size down...save your
images and most of the content for your website when the viewer clicks "more
details".

You might research the possibility of using DreamWeaver to produce your
email newsletters by posting that question in a DreamWeaver newsgroup. I
don't use the tool, so can't tell you if it is possible or how.

Answer the questions above and tell us more about exactly what you are
trying to do, and we might be able to offer more specific solutions.

Hi, Cynthia. Have you tried compressing the pix? Make sure you go to <view>,
<toolbars>, and click <pictures>. When you do that and click on any of your
pictures, the toolbar will show up. One of the icons will be for compressing
pictures. It will give you an option to compress all of them at the same
time. Yay! Start with the <print> resolution to see if that compresses them
enough. If not, you can choose the <web> resolution, which won't be great,
but at least you will be more likely to be able to send the newletter by
e-mail. I'm working on a website with Publisher, and I was surprised at the
significant difference this one step can make in file size. I hope it helps!
