Help please!

I have MS-Publisher 2000. (Computer, p4-2.4, 1 G ram, etc.)
It's funny...if I insert a 74 Kb black and white image (.PNG for instance) on a single page job, my saved .pub document weights 11 Mb !!!
It's not that I care about document size, but the editing time is quite annoying.
Is there something wrong here?
Is it about image filetype? I tried with JPG...same.
