| Thanks for your reply. No, I am using the Terrapin FTP which is downloaded
from the Wanadoo site, which i have used for around 6 years. The problem is
that the pages don't load properly and the pictures on Page 1 are missing,
and both pages 2 and 3 are missing. Just an error message appears on those
pages. The png and vml were already turned to off in the Tools/Options. I
presume the problem is with the transfer of files. When the pages first
appear in the FTP program ready to load there is no file called 'index html'
which is vital to putting them on the web, and there doesn't seem to be a
definite first page to make the index.

| I strongly recommend that Publisher sites be published thru Publisher
(directions can be found at http://www.publishermvps.com ) as mistakes and
errors like you report are common otherwise.
Your last statement I find odd as you report to be using 2003. It's version
2002 that does not default to a index.htm naming convention putting the
burden on the customer. If you are indeed using 2003 that would not be an
issue as 2003 does default to index.htm.

2003 Web Publication' and when I reach save as: index.htm a message comes up
and says 'cannot save as this is a read only publication!'

| Assuming you are doing this to the web server versus local to your PC...
it sounds to me like the current site files on the web server have
permissions set to not allow you to over-write them.
your web host should have an online control panel that allows you to login
into your server. it should have a feature that allows you to delete those
current site files and modify permissions on the directories. if you need
help with those permissions contact your host support.

When I get the FTP name in the 'save in' there is nothing else in the box.
Just the save file at the bottom 'index.htm' and the 'web page filtered' box

| Well, at last i have managed to get my web pages back on in the right
format!! Hurray!! It has taken a large number of hours!! I stopped publishing
to a folder (Tools/Options) and published to My Docs in individual files and
then changed all the png files to jpeg. Eventually it was successful through
my Ftp.

If you can, please pass on my disappointment to Microsoft developers that
they changed the 'Publish to Web' in Publisher 2003 (and according to many of
the other letters I have read in this Discussion Group, also in Pub 2002).
It used to be such a joy to publish my web pages and now it is a real pain!!
I thought they were meant to make things easier in more up to date products?
A large number of people seem to be having a lot of problems when it was so
simple before!
I do hope that in future versions they will put back the much better easier
option.

| I went through this entire procedure several times last night. My ISP (MS
subsidiary COMCAST) was displaying the same thing, read only. I never got
Publisher 2003 SP1 to ever publish my work. I had to publish to a local file
and upload the documents to the server using WSFTP. Strangely enough, also
once I got the files uploaded, another MS product Internet Explorer v6 Sp2,
could not interpret the index_files directory. I was using domain forwarding
with masking. Now a competitors browser, Firefox, had no problem with the
translation. To get my webcontent to display properly I had to remove the
masking from my domain forwarding option, which now takes my .com name out of
the URL block.
