Author Save as web page and hyperlinks - why the change?

I am a new upgrader from Pub 2000 to Pub 2003. From everything I read, Pub
2003 no longer will save external hyperlinked files and re-write the
hyperlink so that it does not reference the local harddrive. Does anyone
have any insight as to why they changed this?

Instead of being able to do a simple publish as web page, you now have to
pubilsh the page, then upload the hyperlinked files; not to mention the time
necessary to change the hyperlinks to the url format.

Usually, things are made better or easier in an upgrade. This is a few
steps backward......

Actually this change came about in version 2002, a point I cover in the
article on this topic located at
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=157

I do not have an explanation for the change. But ever since the 2002 was in
beta I have been voicing to MS that this is a customer pain. So I continue
to hope that at some point a few "steps forward" will occur.

David,

Thanks for the response. I did come across that article in the many I read
when trying to find out if the old save method was hidden some where.
Hopefully your echoing of user pain will result in the return of that
functionality.
