Author Please help me identify the version of Publisher that is needed to open my client's pub

I recently formatted a customer's computer and reinstalled Windows on it and
in the process they lost their Publisher application. I saved all of their
pub files and other documents before I formatted it. No one in the place
knew what version of Publisher they were using and they do not have a
version of Publisher that will open the files. I went through their
"computer stuff" box which had most of their important stuff in it like
their OS disks, Office disks, and stuff like that. There was a disk in
there for Publisher 97 and I installed that but it would not open their pub
files saying something about not being able to open files created with a
different version. I can get Publisher 2000 for about half the price of a
new 2003 version. If Publisher 2000 will work I will be happy to get it for
them and save them some money; they are a small operation in a backwoods bar
in Wisconsin, so they are pretty appreciative of every dollar that I can
save them. Can someone please help me identify which version of Publisher
was used to create their pub files? I can send you one of their pub files
and maybe you could tell me if your version will open it. Or maybe you have
a better idea to identify the files?

I sent the files to Brian last Sunday but I did not hear back from him. Is
anyone else out there willing to help me with this? I would really
appreciate it.

I sent them to you again this afternoon. I do not know what could have
happened to the first set, I used the address you gave me in the post above.
Oh well....

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Brandon

I have this same issue. Did you ever find a resolution to your problem? If so what was the fix?

Thanks,
L.
