Publisher embedding a word doc

Thanks David. Just have few questions:

1) you kindly uploaded my site many months ago now. I remember telling you
the strange ftp address, but you somehow used my website address instead
(www.mignonskincare.co.uk). Do you think perhaps you uploaded it using http
as oppoed to ftp? Would this make such a big difference?

2) There is a site called w3c's html validator (http://validator.w3.org/)
I tested my website on this and there are loads of mistakes (over 460) -
although there are none on my design checker. Is this because of publisher?

Thanks for your help,

Regards
Mignon

Publisher embedding a word doc

One more thing, David. I have just republished my original website & still
can't see anything. Seems to me that you know how to publish it properly & I
don't!

I recall your site in that I listed it on my page
http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDes...29/Default.aspx but I don't
track what help I provide each customer.
the upload protocol has no effect on browser compatibility. just two
different routes of getting files on a server that's all.
Publisher writes a lot of Publisher and IE specific code that is outside of
the W3C.
when using Publisher validating code is irrelevant.
If you want a site that is fully W3C compliant you will need to learn html
and css - and know the W3C standards - and use a web site editing tool to
write your own compliant code.
Some web design tools that generate html like FrontPage can have their
options tweaked to where you can get closer to W3C compliance, but for best
results write your own.
fwiw, I myself have been writing web pages and web applications for about 5
years - in my real job, on the side consulting, and personal - and have
never, not once, ran a page against a validator app. Let alone the W3C's ;-)

use the publishing and trouble-shooting articles at
http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDes...33/Default.aspx

also review the faq http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=30 for
common mistakes.

Thanks David - all fixed now - on Mac & PC. I hadn't ticked "organise
supporting files in a folder" (in tools, options, web). Seems to have made
all the difference!
