Author 2003 Web File size

Started my first page which contains pictures. I have added a simple
boarder to the pictures and when I open the web file folder to see what is
in it ... it contains the original picture and then another one with the
boarder. Why is it not just containing the boardered picture which would
make my web page much smaller.

Any ideas?

Version 2003 is designed to exploit the VML technology in the IE browser.
And it creates copies of an image in different qualities. The code in the
web page has programming logic that determines the page visitors browser and
then loads the best quality image that browser will support.
The short answer to your question is that one browser may load one image
while another browser would use the other. I cover comparisons of the
versions and this at www.davidbartosik.com/pub11.htm

Not sure what you mean ..... one of the images is not framed while the other
image is framed. It's always going to use the framed image as I designed it
in Publisher.

Let's just skip over the how's and why's of what version 2003 does, what you
should do is create the image you want in a photo editor tool and then use
that final image in Publisher. In other words don't design the final image
in Publisher, using your favorite photo editor tool size the image and apply
the border and save that as the final image to use in Publisher.

So what you are saying is that Publisher 2003 is not all what it pretends to
be?

That's a matter of perspective. It has a very complex methodology with the
intent of providing the visitor with the richest view of the page possible.
And it's meant for a customer that wants to create a page easily.
If a customer wants to be concerned with how many files are created and with
file sizes then this version may not be best for that customer, I point that
out in www.davidbartosik.com/pub11.htm
