Indexing of gravestones

| I have been putting some web sites together but my main problem is creating
an index of all the photographs that are on the site. I like to create the
index using tables 4 wide and many deep as I need but is there a way of
fixing the tables so when you add to the list the names moves down a row,
when I try it the row opens up deeper.
The way I'm doing it is to create a list in Excel in alphabetical order then
I have to copy them into my tables when completed but I would like to create
the index as I'm creating the pages and not wait while I have finished.
As anyone any ideas on how I might create the indexes, any help would be
appreciated.
