Author password protection

I am trying to password protect a subweb. I have tried
to follow the instructions in the knowledge base article
#825498 using asp and a Microsoft Access database.
However it is not having the results they say it will.
The logon page does not have a id and password box. I
have copied the code exactly with cut and paste.
What other methods would you suggest. I am kind of a
newbie at web page development.
