Author Verifying Users

I have come to a dead end trying to find the code to verify a user. I
helped a guy right one a few years back but for the life of my can not
remember. What it did was when the user came to the page and selected
a link the script would run and it would get his domain/username and
then verify if they were on the list that had access to the site, if
not it redirected them to a page that told them they did not have
access to that page. Can anyone help me with this problem?? Thanks

Tyler
