Excel 2000 (Interactive) and Frontpage 2000
|
|
|
| Hi all...
I have a bit of a problem and I was wondering if anyone could provide some
assistance.
First off, I'm not a programmer nor web designer. I'm just a plain user with
some technical abilities. I've setup a web site using Frontpage 2000 and
it's been working fine. I now want to add a simple interactive spreadsheet
(no formulas...strictly text based cells) for select users to view and
modify. I've done some reasearch on the web and found several articles
describing how it's done. I've followed the instructions but I"m running
into several problems.
Systems:
W2k Server with IIS 5.0 / IE6 / MDAC 2.53 / OWC 10
W2k Workstation with Office 2000 / IE6 / MDAC 2.53 / OWC 10 - Frontpage 2000
to build web page
XP Workstation with Office 2003 / IE6 / MDAC 2.81 / OWC 11
Here's what I've done so far...
- Saved Excel 2000 worksheet interactively.
- Cannot view filename.htm in a web browser from either workstation
- Downloaded OWC 10 and installed into W2k Workstation
- Downloaded OWC 11 and installed into XP Workstation
- Still cannot view sheet in web browser from either workstation
- Decided to try a different approach
- Created a new page in Frontpage 2000
- Inserted Component (Office Spreadsheet)
- Copied cells from original spreadsheet into Office Spreadsheet Component
- Cannot see spreadsheet in web browser from either workstation
- Deleted Office Spreadsheet Component
- Inserted an Active-X Control (MS Office Spreadsheet 9.0)
- Copied cells from original spreadsheet into Active-X Control Spreadsheet
- Can view spreadsheet in web browser from W2k Workstation.
- Although I can view the spreadsheet, I cannot interact with it. Adding
data to a cell does not save the changes when I exit the page.
- Cannot view from XP Workstation.
- I can see the frame but not contents...just a little icon in top-left
corner.
What am I doing wrong? My two main concerns are...
The ability for users view the spreadsheet.
The ability for users to edit and save the spreadsheet.
TIA for any assistance.

| Interactivity will give them the ability to change a value and see the results
If you want them to save the worksheet they need author rights on the server
- recommend you give them an excel .xls sheet to download
If you use OWC all users need OWC installed and Excel installed

| All users will have office and OWC installed. However, due to the fact that
they will not be able to save changes, this option will not work for me.
Thanks for your clarificaiton on this.
