publish online version locally?
|
|
| GemstoneTalent@c-my-sig.com 2005-01-30, 7:16 pm |
| Changes have been made to a live online site instead of working on the
local C:\drive, then publishing - anyway, site works great online, but how
do we get our local version to match the online?
Do we just SAVE AS?
Do we publish to C:\ ?
The navigation got trashed when we tried to publish - like to avoid that
mishap again.

| With the live/remote site open in FP, use File Menu | Publish Web / Site and enter c:\mysitename in
the dialog.

| Thanks.
After completing this operation, future updates would be accomplished on
the local c:\mysitename, then published to the live web?

| Yes, that would be the best approach.

| Publish to a folder on your hard disk , requires the server externsions.
Connect to the live site through File > Open > Site and put in the URL, then
publish down to your computer. If it works correctly then it should all be
fine, and won't be 'trashed' as you've described.
If you need to do this by FTP mode, that's different, you will need to redo
the navigation etc because essentially Frontpage is not controlling how it
downloads/publishes the files.
