Author Changing domain registry
Craig Schiller

Hi, all -

I originally obtained my domain through Yahoo --- big mistake, but
that's another story. It turns out they subcontract this process and my
domain name wound up being registered with a company in Australia! My
question is, how do I transfer the registry to a company a little closer
to home --- say, at least in the US? I want to do this because, among
other things, the Australian company didn't notify me recently when the
domain had expired, and my website wound up being down for almost a week
as a consequence. I'd like to get a company a bit more user friendly.
Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

Visit any Registrar web site, and look for the option to transfer your domain to them.

But be careful, dont just go to the cheapest. For example a place like
register.com will charge you big time if you need to transfer away from them.
And you may also find that your current registrar will make you pay a fee to
leave them.

I stick with Network Solutions. Costs $35 a year for the name, but they will
issue you reminders and they generally operate fairly.

Same thing happened to me...I had sites registered through too many =
registrars...it drove me nuts trying to weed-out the real renewal =
reminders from the spammers. So I put them all on Network Solutions (yah =
they cost more, but all in one place and all supposedly protected).

Yep takes several days.
