Author how do I use a favorite icon in my web site?

Someone suggested that I all had to do was create the symbol as an icon file
(.ico) and place it in the web site main directory. The symbol did appear in
the address for a while but it doesn't stay. Is there a specific way to use
a favicon.ico file that makes it work reliably?

When you clear Internet Explorer's temporay files, it is gone until you
again place it in your Favorites. Firefox stores them in a location other
than the temp files and it sticks. Get Firefox at: http://www.mozilla.org/
Set it to import your Favorites (called Bookmarks), and set is as your
default browser. Much more secure!
