| If it is in a shared border or include page, set the date properties to: Last Automatically Updated

| Steve,
Shared border. I would like each page to individually show when it was
last updated if that is possible.
thanks

| Stefan,
Didn't work. Now when I open up my web it each page says it was updated 7-26-04 when in fact only page 2 of the 6 pages
was updated today. This is a problem because one of the pages gets into legal notices and it's quite important that the
date should only change when that one page is actually updated. Any other ideas on how i might accomplish this?
Thanks again

| On your legal page, why not just hard code the date it was last updated, that way it will only
change when you actually change it?

| Are you opening the page in FrontPage or in a browser? In FrontPage the
date will *Always* show as today's date - do not save the page unless you
actually change something, when the date *should* be today's.
Note that changing any shared border or include will also change the updated
date, whether the content has changed or not.

changed the navigation recently, which changed the date in every page.

| That's because when you changed the properties all pages got updated
- go edit one of the pages (not any part of a shared border) and you will get unique date for just that page
About the only way I know of possibly setting the dates retroactive (to older dates) is to reset your PC date, open FP, run a Tools
recalculate hyperlinks, open the page (change something), and resave it
- close FP and repeat the cycle for the next date / page

| Ronx,
Must be something wrong in newsgroup. I sent a reply a couple of days ago but I
see that it is not listed here. bascially i said the following:
I am opening in a browser, have discovered the FrontPage always list today's
date, as you said. i could take the date function out of the shared border but
Stefan (MVP above) said that wasn't necessary to get different dates on the
individual pages. Apparently it is or some other change has to be made to make
it work. I assume this is a pretty common question, so was hoping for a simple
answer.
Thanks for your help.

| Ron
I use Stefan's method (set the Timestamp properties to show the date of the
last automatic update) without problems - it shows the date the content of a
page was last updated, not the date the border was updated.
You can see this at www.rxs-enterprises.com/
The date in the bottom border (include page in this case, but includes and
shared borders work the same way) shows the revised date as 6 July, the
include page
(at www.rxs-enterprises.com/_borders/indexbottom.htm ) shows 9 May, and the
include nested into indexbottom.htm that contains the timestamp
(at www.rxs-enterprises.com/menu_incs/bottom_inc.htm) also shows 9 May.
Note that all .htm pages on this site show the same (6 July) date - the top
navigation was revised then, and that counts as a page update, affecting all
pages.

| That's because when you made the changes I recommended all pages were updated to the then current date 7-26-04
If you look back to your earlier post a couple days ago on the same Issue I gave you a recommended way to try to backdate files

| Stefan,
|
| Didn't work. Now when I open up my web it each page says it was updated 7-26-04 when in fact only page 2
| of the 6 pages
| was updated today. This is a problem because one of the pages gets into legal notices and it's quite
| important that the
| date should only change when that one page is actually updated. Any other ideas on how i might accomplish
| this?
|
| Thanks again
|
