Need info on IIS manager and autoriting / permisions for FP ( MVP please read ).

| HI! I am trying to narrow down a login issue that I am having with one ISP
that just bought the company but know nothing about FrontPage.
He used Dreamweaver before to publish to this specific website that I a
working on as a volunteer for a local sports and activity center.
He the issue. in FP 2003 I am able to publish using the FTP mode. its
accepts my username and password. but when I try using the HTTP mode is just
redisplays the login box over and over.
This leaves me to believe that I do not have full authoriting permission on
this server's subweb. NOW. When looking at my own computers IIS manager 5.0
running on a w2k pro platform I notice in the permission wizard ( when right
click on any subweb ) it at one point shows me what permissions is going to
be installed. there in two group template options ( "public web" and "secure
web") both with only give Full control to the administrator. ( on my own
computer I am the admin so there is no problem there ) but at the site's
server I am not and if the settings are similar to what I have on my own
computer then it would explain me not being able to logon using FP http
mode.
1: How do we modify this default templates or create new ones?
2: On a windows 2000 or xp server Platform is there other options to add
groups or specific users to a subweb in the IIS manager and give full
control?
3: Is checking who has Full control to the subweb relatively the same as in
IIS 6.0 or in IIS 5.0 w2k server platform?
I need enough info in order to be able to guide this person. I am not
completely loss concerning servers and permission but I am no MVP either. I
would appreciate any info you can give me.
If you foresee any other things that you think I should know in order to
resolve this issue please list it.
You know what is the hardest part of this ( and its not the above). Is that
I have to convince him to look into it as he uses dreamweaver (and I suspect
that he is bios by the tone of his voice when I mentioned a program other
than what he uses.) and is quick to put the blame on FP not being able to
connect instead of investigating into it and checking to see if its really
the user or is it a server configuration problem.
On a positive note however I am hopeful that I am going to end up learning a
lot from this experience and for this I am grateful :)
Odyssey-( And thanks to all who respond to this post.) :)

| Sounds to me like there aren't any FrontPage extensions on the server. That would be why it accepts
the user and pass for FTP but not http://
