Author Setting up access to a published web?

I am assuming responsibility for an existing web site that uses Front Page Extensions. The site resides on an ISP. I have used Front Page 2000 for a little web page editing but not for webmaster tasks before. I can open the web site using the File > Op
en Web menu option and see the folders and files.

Can anyone please recommend an approach for setting up my client computer so my computer and the web site are "synch'ed up" for publishing updates to the site? I don't want to do anything with Front Page that might negatively impact the site. Do I need
to download everything from the web site to my computer to establish a base-line for updates? Should I directly update the pages on the site or work on local copies of the pages and then republish to the site?

Thanks,
Paul

Once you have opened the online site in FP, to get it on your PC use
File Publish Web/Site and browse to a local existing top level folder on your PC like say C:\wwwTheSite (no spaces or punctuation)
as a disc based web*
Then in FP open the local site (File Open Web/Site and browse to C:\wwwTheSite
When done editing, save and close all pages in your FP Web and use File Publish to the online url using http://www.thesitename.com/

* if the site uses server side technology (.asp) you may need to run a local server based web under the FP SE and localhost

Recommend before you start you get & run the FP Tutorial at
