Author Shared Border off the Main Page

Once you leave the main page at my site it reverts back to the old border. I appreciate any suggestions on this matter.

Just a wild guess. Do you have a subweb? If so, just changing permissions will not change the subweb itself. Shared borders are not passed on to the subweb. They are both "Webs" You will have to change it back to a folder or copy the content of your m
ain web's border into the shared border of the subweb.

I believe he's talking about the left border. When you go to a link, the border is different (has little squares with dots)

I am talking about the left border, which reverts back to an earlier version of a border that I made. I am not sure what is meant by a subweb. I am thinking of a folder at the host site. I did take off all the old pages and deleted the old folder. I t
han uploaded the pages again and put in a new folder. However, I still used the same name for that folder. When I see these pages on my own frontpage program with even the same folders, it works fine.
Thank you for your help so far.

oh...you're talking about the little tigerpaw prints! (duh on me)

Try Recalculating Hyperlinks and Re-Publish.

Also don't overlook the fact that sometimes when you change an image =
(with the same name) it doesn't "take" the new change...you kinda have =
to import it again like it was a new image. (dunno if that pertains to =
this problem..but just a thought)

I do appreciate the assistance and quick responses. I did try the recalculating and, unfortunately, am still with the old border. If there are any other thoughts, I would appreciate it.

Recalculate, now why didn't I remember that? Is it because we sometimes overlook the simple solution?
Crash Gordon®

2004-04-27, 4:30 am

hmmm.

the index page has no reference to the image pawblack.gif - which is =
probably the little paw print.

however..if you advance to other pages where you do get the paw...it =
looks like you are advanced to a subweb? If you then click on Home you =
go to an index page in the subweb and you do get the little paw print.

so maybe you applied the theme changes to the subweb(s) and not the main =
web?

sorrry but i'm confused too.

Check Your Nav View and folder structure
Your main home page at
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/
Goes to the secondary pages like
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/cfalum/General.htm
But they have a home page of
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/cfaa/index.htm

Stefan, Crash, & wp,
Thanks for your help already. When I go into my pages it reverts back to the old border, which is also changing where the home page is going to go and such. So I am wondering if navigation view and folder structure are symptoms of my problem, which, unf
ortunately, I still am unable to figure out.

It's hard to figure out what your trying to do without the overall =
concept...

It looks like you have pages in several different folders; cfaa, =
cafalum, and the root. Is this can add to confusion. You can just put =
them all in the root and adjust the navigation from Navigation (they =
don't have to be in folders like files on your computer for them to =
appear in tree form in web navigation).

Well, I took out the folders at the site. I cleaned up as much as one can, even on my own computer. Unfortunately, this border keeps following me along. I even made sure to change all my links appropriately. Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

Some of your pages are in still in
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/cfalum/
some are in:
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/cfaa
and your home page should probably be in:
http://www.chagrinfallslumni.org/ but it's not.

It appears as if your home page is in; =
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/cfaa/index.htm ???
IF one were to go by the Home Page link.

Unless you really intend it to be this way (which doesn't appear to be =
working)

Start by putting all your pages in:
http://www.chagrinfallsalumni.org/ (the root)

Then Recalculate Hyperlinks.
Re-Publish
Then go to Navigation and move the pages around into the structure you =
want them to be in.

You also have scripting errors, but I'm not a scripter yet.

r.

Crash,
Thanks for sticking with me on this. Now you are seeing one of my dilemmas. I have cleared out everything at the host site and have redone the links. However, once you click on any link, it reverts back to the former left border. Unfortunately that bo
rder has links to folders I no longer have. I don't know PHP well and am wondering if the problem could be there.
Thanks,
Brian

Did you apply the shared border to "all pages"?
wp

2004-04-28, 10:31 pm

That's what I first thought too.
Maybe he didn't apply the shared border to all pages?
Brian M

2004-04-29, 4:30 am

I have applied shared borders to the index page. I'll copy and paste and then rename the copy index.php. Could this be a key to my problem?

Thanks,
Brian

I think some recent indicate a problem with using FP Include Page Component and Shared Border with
..php pages.

If you applied the borders only to the index page but had previously applied to all pages, the modified border will only show in the index. The other pages still are using the unmodified border. I believe this is how it works but not sure why. Someone
correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, why would you only apply it to the index page if you want all pages to contain the same border?
Select all pages and see what happens.

I am starting to understand the terminology so much better and yet I'm still dumbfounded. I did try the change of borders again and asked for it to apply to all pages. Unfortunately, I'm still unlucky. I am to a point where I think I should copy and pa
ste the content over and start with all new fresh pages.
