Problem previewing in browser
|
|
|
| I'm new and trying to learn. I'm getting this error message: "To view all elements in this page correctly, save or publish the page, and preview it in a web browser." I have saved my material many times. And I've downloaded a working version from my we
b site. However, I still can't view all elements in the computer version. What's the problem?

| You have to publish the site to a actually web server, currently you are working with a disk-based
web. Also depending on what you have include in your page, you must view the page on a server that
has the FP extensions installed as well.

| I don't understand, then, how I can avoid messing up my web site. In other words, I want to "see" what I've done before publishing it to the site. Even my "Preview" page doesn't show how the page will look. I'm wondering if I have understood you. The
error message said to "save OR publish."

| It is telling you that you need to have the site running on a server with the
FrontPage extensions installed for all of the features you are using to operate
correctly.
If you are running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional you can
install IIS and the extensions on your computer and then publish it to and
preview it in IIS.

| What FP functionality have you included on your pages?

| I'm sorry. What do you mean by "functionality"? My site, which someone else built, includes the usual tables, links, graphics, etc. Is this what you mean?
| |
|
| My web site already has frontpage extensions installed. By the way, what is IIS? Is it a free download?
What about downloading my site once more (it is working), then republishing the site? That way, I will have saved everything that is working.

IIS is the MS web server and is only available if you are running Windows XP Professional, Windows
2000 Professional. It is not downloadable, is part of the OS and is added via Add/Remove Programs |
Windows Components.

| Yes, my site has a lot of "functionality." We have forms, stats, discussions, sales, donations, links, newsletters, etc. Here is the address: www.futurechurch.net
I still don't understand why my "Preview" page won't actually "preview." Also, if you could answer some of the questions I raised above, it would be helpful.
