Help With Web Page Using Shared Borders
|
|
| Andrew Auletta 2004-03-30, 9:22 pm |
| I have a problem that has been plaguing me for a long time. Our web
page uses shared borders, with a menu of items in the left panel, the
header in the top panel, and the actual web page content in the right
panel.
In the menu section at the left, if I add a few more rows than is
curently there, and publish the revised page, the web page content
from the right panel gets all jumbled up, and shows up in the left and
top section as well.
I upgraded FP2000 to FP2003 and had a chance to look at the tags.
There doesn't seem to be any tags that would be causing the problem.
Does anybody have an idea as to how I can add rows to the right
section without screwing up the rest of the page?
TIA

| I see all the content of
http://www.brent-krueger.com/_borders/left.htm
correctly shown on your home page (only on the left)

| Thanks Stefan. The page shows correctly now, but if I add another 5
or 6 rows to the list that shows on the left side, that's when the
problem occurs.
Once I add more rows and publish the revised page, both the top border
and left border assume the contents of the main portion of the page
and you don't see the data that's currently in the left shared border.
If I go back and remoe the extra rows, the page returns to normal.
Any sense of what I need to do to add more rows to the left shared
border without screwing up the page?

| Tools Web Setting Advanced - show hidden folders
In the _borders folder open left.htm, and add them there

| Stefan -- Didn't work. When I opened the left shared border, and
added another five rows, it looked good locally when I previewed it.
But when I published it, and viewed the page at the website the left
and top borders took on the content of the body of the page. Any
other suggestions?

| Remove the height from your table in the left shared border
<table width="217" height="2574">
Add a row and leave it there for us to see

| I removed the table height and re-published. It did the same thing.
It threw the copy that is in the main body of the page into the shared
left, top and bottom borders. I couldn't leave it that way because
the website is live. I'm at a loss. This issue has persisted for
quite some time. Any other suggestions?

| I have no idea where you think you are adding rows to your table in left.htm in the _borders folder,
but shared borders will never wrap - they are just tables in your main page and table to do not wrap into other tables
From your site, look at the 2 pages created at
http://sbrenjoy.bizland.com/sb/index.htm which links to
http://sbrenjoy.bizland.com/sb/specials.html
Both show lots of rows added after "More links added BELOW" by just inserting additional rows to your existing table (select the
last row and right click to select Split cells), and copying other rows or leaving them empty.

| Man, how did you do that. As I told you, when I add any more than 5
more rows to my left border, the left border takes on the content of
the main section. While this doesn't happen locally, it happens when
I publish the revised left border to our website. After I publish,
and return using the browser to our website, everything is messed up.
I tried using your html with the added rows, but the content from the
main section of the page still winds up being displayed in the left
border as well.
Sorry for continuing to bother you over this issue, but I can't seem
to get it to work.

| Now I got it. I was just copying and pasting additional rows without
splitting the last cell. After I split the left cell into additional
rows, it worked fine! Thanks.
