| Why is it... on this older site that I'm trying to get up to date, I can't
get the text to adjust or resize (re-scale) as I adjust the browser. I can
do this on my new site but I don't remember specifically what was done to
accomplish this. I guess I'm taking it for granite... now I would like to
implement it on this older site as I renovate it.

| Can you post a link of the problem site? There's no real way to know what is
going on without seeing the actual code.
Hope this helps,

| sounds like your table or cell has become a fixed value.
don't drag table borders or your tables won't collapse - if that's what =
you intend.
go into table properties and set the width to percentage instead of =
fixed width.
at least i think thats what you need.

| I tried to set the width at 95% but it seems to make no difference what I
set it at.
Then, if I was to try and type in a cell, the text overflow will stretch the
table as needed. I don't want this. There's also a property that says do
NOT wrap. I have this unchecked.. assuming that this will allow it to wrap.

You wont notice anything that looks bad. Its in the development environment
that seems to not allow this. I'm force to do a hard page return.....Yuk!

| Then what was did I do so that my other site resizes with the browser.
Everything I try, in this site, will not allow this, but my other web pages
resizes as I wish this one would.
Site that resizes: www.angelfire.com/falcon/ae92gw
This is hosted on a free site, therefore, it has popups and advertising.

| You must make sure that if you are using % for the table width, then all
cells must also be set using % for widths, and the total width of all cells
widths must equal 100% of the total width of the table. And if you use drag
any cells, then the width value will in most case change to a fixed width
from a %.

| The problem is this.
I set up a table with lots of cells. The left menu bar looks good. Then I
add data (news) in the middle cells. When I do this, the menus (cells at
the left) all change distance. It seems to be a constant battle of merging
and splitting to get things to look right. Then it all happens again and
again.
There must be a more logical method to go about this?

| Personally when I use 3 column layout I do a fixed left-most column, a =
collapsing center table, and a fixed right-most column.
Keep image sizes in mind when you do this as they will prevent table =
from collapsing the way you want them to...particularly that large =
montage image you have on index page of your web. Its not your text that =
is messing you up there, it's the large image...i think.

| The major problem with using frames from a user's point of view, is that I
can not bookmark a specific page or access specific pages directly (like
coming from a search engine via link like the following), where the site
navigation is missing.

| What do you try to keep your total width to be?
Do you start with one cell, then within that single cell, create your
3-cells?
"Crash Gordon" <SPAMwebmaster@siriussystems.com> wrote in message
news:%23DLKo6J$DHA.268@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl...
Personally when I use 3 column layout I do a fixed left-most column, a
collapsing center table, and a fixed right-most column.
Keep image sizes in mind when you do this as they will prevent table from
collapsing the way you want them to...particularly that large montage image
you have on index page of your web. Its not your text that is messing you up
there, it's the large image...i think.

| I'm really not. I inherited the site to fix it. The domain is being
forward to another domain.
I would like to get rid of the frames if I thought it would not cause harm.
Not sure how to go about and do that. The site, actually does not make use
of the framesets as "frames are intended"

I am wondering why you are using frames on that page anyway?

| The problem is this.
| I set up a table with lots of cells. The left menu bar looks good. Then
I
| add data (news) in the middle cells. When I do this, the menus (cells at
| the left) all change distance. It seems to be a constant battle of
merging
| and splitting to get things to look right. Then it all happens again and
| again.
|
| There must be a more logical method to go about this?

www.dfwtejanos.com
However, I have put code that should of called the index page. You pointed
out a page where that code is incorrect. I will have to fix that. Thanks

| I noticed that last night... or should I say 2am this morning. The server
was down....it is now up.
My concern is properly setting up a 3-column display. I read (this forum)
about how you should set this fix and that float...make this collapsible. I
don't see anything in books about the strategy in creating this without
falling into the "pit traps" of everything messing up.
I have a difficult time creating cells to be used as menus and having them
maintain proportion and fix positions. Everything seems to change when I
want to add data the middle column.
I want a fixed row on the left and a fixed row on the right. I don't want
these changing as I continually add/remove data in the middle column.

| Okay, this is cool. Now I have a few questions.
The nested cell that has the color change... Is this intended for creating
my side menu or do we create a completely new table below this... to begin
work. Just trying to see if the top section (such as a headers, logos and
stuff should be completely independent or not.
Also, When text is entered into the middle section, as typically done, do I
create another cell in the middle for each block of text (each major
subjects)?
Sorry about the newbie type question?

| Looks like Thomas has got you goin in the right direction.
Yes you can subdivide the middle cells however you want...just remember =
DON'T Drag the borders or table won't collapse for you. When you drag =
the borders the become fixed and whatever res. you are at...well just =
don't do it it will mess up the collapse-ability.
Your other question will be self evident after you open Thomas's page in =
your FP.
You might want to try starting with T's cell on a new page and =
experiment re-building one of your existing pages into it...see how it =
goes.
have fun..!
