Problem with swap depths in Flash

I am attempting to swap depths on 9 items on a web page and it does work and
comes to the front but them it seems to get confused and all of them form
behind comes to the top...

the code I am attempting ot use is:

on (press, dragOver) {
startDrag(_root.btnb);
}
on (release, rollOut, dragOut) {
stopDrag();
}
on (rollOver) {
_root.x +=2;
_root.btnb.swapDepths(_root.x);
}
