Ok, so Im really new to Flash and this is what I have.

First I sliced part of an image and copied out of it using photoshop. I
imported the full image into flash and then used variations of the slice to
create a button. To make the button I imported the .psd file with a
transparent background. The full image is the 'background' then I put the
slice on top so that the slice and original were in line. My problem is how do
I make the clickable area the shape of the image and not the box surrounding
it? The button works, however the clickable area of the box covers an area
where I want to put another button. I'm not sure if I have th right idea or am
barking up the wrong tree. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This button that you've made, did you create a button symbol, or a
movieClip? If you've made a button, then you can open that symbol, go to
the "hit" frame, and draw any shape that you like for the button's hit
space.

If this is a movieClip, then you're stuck with the shape of the slice
that you're using.

I've create a button symbol, but I've imported the image in and the hit area is
defined as a box around the image. Do I just need to draw an outline around
the image with the pencil tool to create my hit area? The button works fine
and all, its just my hit is way too big.

make any shape you want in the "Hit" frame and that will be the click able area of the button.

Hello,
Yes for the hit frame;
Once your image is on your stage, create a rectangle ( or any shape ) on your
stage, then make it as a button, open the button and drag the first frame to
the hit frame, that will become an invisible button
You can then use many instences of that by giving them different instance
names..
Hope this helps
