If I put a flash file for a game on our site, can someone else download the
game on their site by embedding a link to it on their site? I am okay if they
provide a link on thor site and peole have to come to our site to play it. But
if they can play (or I guess download) on their site itself than that is not
good as they used it without acknowledgment to us. Any comments if this is true
? If so how to avoid this as it can consume bandwdith? :confused;

I don't think you can completely stop someone from downloading or taking it.
But this may help keep an honest person honest.

My suggestion is to try creating a swf shell. Use the same paramaters that
yourgame.fla consist of (size, fps, etc), and put only this on the first frame:

loadMovie("yourgame.swf");

If they try to download it, they just get an empty swf file.
