Drop shadow filter not showing
|
|

| Hi -
I'm using the Filter tab on the Properties palette to apply a drop shadow. as
I'm working on the FLA it looks as expected but when I publish it - no shadow.
The shadow is not part of the MC but applied after the MC is placed on stage.
What's wrong? Why aren't I seeing the shadow in the swf?
TIA your input.

| Do you see the shadow if you use Test Movie from the Control menu?

| if either the width or height of your MC (include shadow size) is larger than 2880, you will lost the filter detail.

| Thank you for the responses.
Rob - no. Whether I use the control menu or the keyboard to test the movie,
there is no shadow.
GGSHOW - the mc with the mystery shadow is only 350x70.
I hope this helps.

| OK, are you publish your swf for Flash Player version 7 or below?
filter works only in swf for Flash Player 8 and above.

| Flash 8.
I have buttons that have drop shadow on their own timeline that appear.
I could do the same with this one but it just doesn't seem right.

| OK, after tested FLA file from jlucchesi, the summary is:
the FLA file, looked fine in my computer, & in my friend's computer, have a
drop shadow of his rectangle, in both FLA and the published SWF, either in
Flash 8 or Flash CS3.
but the same FLA files, in his computer, has a drop shadow in Flash IDE, but
the drop shadow missing when test movie, and also in published SWF.
The only different is, I'm using a windows PC, & he is using a mac.
Surrender! Hope someone else here can help him, & I wish to know what is the
problem also.

The shadow is exaggerated on the png (screen cap of the FLA) below the swf
made of the exact same file.

| OK, there is a bug in the auto kerning function for text in the Mac version of
Flash 8. It causes many odd problems. One of these is the problem that you
found. Go back in to the movieClip that contains the text "now playing". Create
a new layer in that clip. Make a new text object for now playing. This time, DO
NOT SELECT auto kerning. Remove the original text. The clip should show the
drop shadow as expected.

| Rob -
Bingo!
That is most far out - how did you come upon that most arcane piece of information?
What other problems will auto kern cause?
Thanks for solving that.

| I don't really know the full extent of the problem. This is the first time that
I've seen autokerning mess up static text. I usually causes problems with input
and/or dynamic text. If you look at a dynamic or input text field's property
window, you'll see that autokerning is unavailable. In the windows version
autokerning is available.
The most common problem seen is when input fields are used in a form and the
contents are sent to a CGI. Sometimes the input field contents do not get sent.
You'll find many references to this syndrome on the ActionScript forum.
