Author Which is Better?

Hey all,
Got a quick "which is better" question for you.

Do you like the:
http://www.gerkenandassociates.com/

Or the:
http://www.gerkenandassociates.com/newsite/

Any input is appreciated... however, we're not really looking for a "critique"
of either of the sites over all... just which you prefer and why. (no
"don't like the orange" comments in other words) ;)

I like the second one; it just feels friendlier.

HTML version simply from a usability standpoint. The Flash version takes too long to arrive at the info.

As much as I love Flash - the HTML version feels more Professional - cleaner - the flash version
feels amatuer to me - maybe it's the 12fps frame rate and the slowness of the menu drop down - just
feels a bit clunky - like "my first flash movie" a little.

I'll tell you what bugs me most about the flash movie - hover over a menu and when it drops down -
you can still see a hint of the hous grphic on the top left - it is the slightest little nit-picky
thing but my eye is drawn to it everytime and i cant help but wonder why that was left in there and
not covered up completely - drives me a little batty :)

Chris Georgenes... that's very odd, I don't see that at all. Are you
sure your monitor isn't refreshing weird? Does anyone else see the "ghost
house" on the menus?

Thanks for all these replies btw... it's funny to me how "tied" the responses
seem to be so far.

sorry 0 i didnt explain it well - go here:
http://www.mudbubble.com/house.jpg

in the red circle - that little 2 pixel edge of the house's roof on the menu to the left of the one
that's active - i dont know why - but it bugs me :p

I see the same thing. The edge of the eave of the house graphic sticks out. It's only a few pixels but you notice it.

AHH!! Yep... something I'd never noticed.
Well, I will put that under the "it's orange" category if that's okay. :)

The Flash version has been up since last December, and we just did the HTML
version for them as a lot of their clientele are older people with computers to
match. But we're trying to decide whether to use them both, or one or the
other... they (the client) all like the Flash one better, but are tired of
getting phone calls from people who "can't see" the site, and also don't want
to have a "choose HTML / Flash page" if they can help it.

There... that's my book on the subject. :)

what version of the flash player are you publishing to?

Flash 8.
And I use the "express install" stuff and everything.

It doesn't look like it uses anything Flash 8 specific .. its usually best
to publish for the lowest flash version that supports what you want. Then
you get less calls about people not being able to view.

It's got dropshadows and bevels that can't export down...

You could always do them the old-fashioned (pre Flash 8 way).

I prefer the HTML version in this case. The menus in the Flash just feel a
tad unprofessional in their movement and functionality.

With reference to your comments about being wary of making the user choose a
Flash or HTML version of your site - why not use an autodetection routine
and direct traffic appropriately? Colin Moock developed an excellent
routine, which (by his own admission) has now been superseded by Flash's
own. Still, take a look at his site - it provides a link to the Adobe
detection script (and a couple of others) and a few nuggets of excellent
advice on the matter:
