i've seen quite a bit of well illustrated sites that have some line
illustrations that reveal themselves.

for example: a vine starts out from the bottom and slowly grows springing
leaves off it's self.

does anyone know an easy way to do this? i've been doing shape-tween masks and
i'm sure ther eis a better way...

sometimes it is a combination of several things - frame by frame, motion/shape tweens, masks etc....
the subject matter dicates the technique in most cases - but all in all it could be any combination
of these techniques. Show us a sample and then we could break it down a bit more for you.
