Author Message for regulars

Hi Fellow Forum Contributors,

Some of you may have noticed that when users post code to the forum, it
can become distorted and unreadable. I contribute in the Director forums
and have seen it happen with Lingo and am sure this would be the same
with Actionscript.

Code with [ ] can have an inaccurate translation when transferred to the
NNTP server. This tends to happen with code elements posted under a Web
forum user profile - webforumsuser@macromedia.com. It makes it difficult
and frustrating to offer support to problems when you can't decipher the
message.

I've been talking to a few of the regular contributors in the Director
forums and we thought it would be worth sending a letter to Adobe to
raise these problems and hopefully get something done to resolve them.
If anyone is interested in having their name included in this letter or
would like to contribute or make suggestions, please let me know.

I can be contacted offlist at d.utian@unsw.edu.au

regards
Dean

Not a bad thought. Though, honestly, I believe there have been
complaints/helpful suggestions along the same lines already. But do send
another, by all means! :)

In my own experience, the problem only seems to occur when square
brackets surround HTML elements; that is, the letters b or i, for example,
inside [ ]. I used to post for() loops with the variable i. When the for()
loop accessed an array index, things ran afoul. But when I changed my
variable to n my code showed up fine on the forums, because there is no <n>
element in HTML. Of course, this is just my own anecdotal musing.

If anyone else has insight, let's add it here, as well. Adobe may be
unable to accommodate (after all, the web interface does have a button for
uploading code separately), and if they don't, it would be helpful to know
various discovered tips and tricks.
