I am pretty much a novice when it comes to flash and I would appreciate any
help. I made an effect that when you mouseover a button, an image would fade
in. The problem is that on the OVER level of the button, it regards the image
and the button as one symbol so the image fades in when you mouse over the
invisble image as well as the button. Is there some way to make it so that it
doesn't have them as the same symbol, but the image still appears when you
mouse over the button? This may sound like a stupid question with a ludicrously
easy answer, but like I said I'm a total novice.
Thanks in advance!

Me too, but I'll try to help!

The only thing I can think of is to make the fading image a movie clip, and on
your button, add an extra layer and put the movie clip on the over box for your
button. Because it sounds like you put the image on the button itself, which
would trigger the strike area when you mouse over. If I'm totally wrong as to
my assumption, so sorry!

Well, that's the problem, when you have two symbols in the OVER frame of a
button, it regards them as one so it knows where the hit area is. I've tried
turning the image into the button and then changing the hit area, but the
button is still always regarded as the hit area even if there's a specified hit
area.

What I really need to know is what actionscript I need to use to play the
image fade-in movieclip. Then I can just apply that to the button.

Thanks for your help, though.
