Author seamless movie sequence fading

I have a seamless scrolling movie sequence of some stars.

I only want to have the sequence go half way across the page. Instead of
making a hard line mask I wanted it to be a small transition or transparrency.

I normally have a black background and would in that case just use a black
square that fades from 100% Opacity to 0%. This is not the case thoughb as the
back ground will not be black for this project. Any advice?

Is the background a bitmap? If so, a bit of it can be placed above
the scroller and have it's edges faded to transparent. Make the fade
in Photoshop or equivalent and save as png to allow the transparency.
Import into flash. If it's a solid color you can do the fade in
Flash. Your scrolling motion will not be as smooth if you Alpha fades
over bitmaps though.
