Hi

I just purchased Studio8 with the intention of using Dreamweaver for creating
a site,
but one of my coworkers who uses Flash for game development suggested that I
learn Flash
and that once I did I would forget all about dreamweaver. My question for the
group is,
Can Flash really be used as a complete site development tool?

Hey there Mrbuzz. To answer your question, yes. Flash can be used to put
out an html page but to use it as a complete site development tool?
Considering how you've purchased Studio8 then I'd advise you learn at least
the basics of Dreamweaver, its interface and how well it can incorporate
Flash elements. That is, presuming you're familiar with the basics of web
development (HTML).

I think you'd be selling yourself short by sticking solely to Flash for the
sake of creating a site. Together DW and Flash can help you put out some
great stuff with greater ease.

On another note: Have you been around the Dreamweaver forum?

the answer is much more than simple.. yes it can be used, but you cannt compare
it with dreamwavver, after all, each one has it own segment.. after all look at
all the sites made in flash and you will se that flash is used 100%.

Flash can and has been for years - there are tens of thousands of full flash sites already on the
web - www.thefwa.com is a small sample.
but the suggestion that once you learn flash you'll forget about DW is a bit bizarre - that's like
saying once you buy a saw you'll never use a hammer again - kinda silly to suggest something like
that - 2 tools for different purposes that often overlap.

Sounds like you met a genuine Flash zealot - not such a bad thing, Flash can
indeed run an entire site, and I have heard advocates for all-Flash sites since
1999. But despite such a passage of time, and such overwhelming advantages,
there remain very few. Without exaggerating one bit I think there is one
all-Flash site for 1,000,000 mostly-HTML sites.

A nice site has a mixture of both. So learn some Flash by all means, but in
the meantime don't sell your Dreamweaver!

For the informative feedback, the site www.thefwa.com really shows what can
be done with Flash.
It looks like using both DW with Flash will be a good way to start and maybe
move in the direction of
an all Flash site over time.
