Why is JPEG not working?

hi, there, i'm new to the "flash" software, and am excited about using it.
however, i have a basic problem.

i can import jpeg images just fine, and i can view them on my stage; but when
i do a "test" mode, i instead get red boxes where the photo images should be.
the sizes of the red boxes are the same as the original jpeg images, but they
are completely red and no photo can be seen.

i have no idea how to view them in my "test" mode...what am i doing wrong? or
what am i overlooking? :sad;

either i misunderstood the process, or something just didn't work w/the
program, but i did finally solve the problem. well, i don't understand what
the actual problem was, but i found a way to fix it.

initially, i was just "inserting object" from the "edit" menu. however, after
"importing" from the "file" menu, everything worked fine. i was able to view
jpeg, gif, and png files in the "test" mode, whereas before i couldn't. they
loaded just fine on the stage, but when i "inserted" them as objects, they were
not viewable in "test" mode. "importing" them worked just fine. :smile;
