I have elements I want to introduce on the main timeline that will require me
to be able to see the last (stopped) frame of an earlier movie clip - for
placement purposes. Is there a way to see the 10th frame of a MovieClip when
you're on the main timeline that holds that movie clip? I can figure
workarounds (like put that element at the beginning of the loaded MC and then
remove it once I'm done), but I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to do
this?

Thanks in advance.

you can try this.
this.that_mc.gotoAndStop(10);
that_mc is your movie clip. and the gotoAndStop() function goes to the 10th frame of your movie.
