Using a SWF as background animation in new flash file

Hi Everyone,

I have created a flash page with bubbles flowing over it. I now want to mask
over certain areas. However due to the actionscript i have used the bubbles
play over the masks. Is it possible to play the swf as a background movie in
another flash document then simply create the site over the top of it leaving
spaces where i want the bubbles to show? If it is how do i do it. I have
tried going to insert then putting the swf into the stage. However when i go
preview the swf doesn't play do i have to add action script to it?
