Author Can stage be made transparent?

I am new to Flash and I am using several resources to learn it quickly. One
thing I cannot find anything about (which usually means you can't do it) is to
change the stage color to transparent. Intensity can change for symbols, etc.
but the stage property settings does not have that readily available. I'm
guessing it may be possible through ActionScript, but haven't delved too deep
into that yet. Appreciate any help on this.

The code for transparent background is in the HTML that embeds the SWF in a
page, and looks like this:

<PARAM NAME="wmode" VALUE="transparent">

But you should know, it is very very very buggy and causes all kinds of
problems in the users browsers. Highly recomend NOT to use it and design
your sites other ways.

HTH!

You can also access this feature via the Publish Settings>HTML window. Using
this method is highly buggy, it's sort of a quick fix, and can lead to many
many issues. Poor fps, stuff displaying incorrectly or not at al... etc etc etc

I could never figure out the problems with the transparent mode. I have been using it regularly and never face any problems. Can anyone specify what kind of bugs u r talking about.
