Author making a flash button from exported Illustrator swf

I have text in Illustrator that I want to turn into buttons in flash. The
letters are white with a 2 pt stroke. I exported them as an swf file and
imported them into flash. No problems to that point. I convert the graphic to
a button and double click into the 4 pane button editor. I do all 4 panes and
click back out to the main file. When I run the movie to test the button, I
get a strange reaction. As I move the cursor over the button, it turns into
the white hand only when the cursor is over a letter. So when you swipe the
cursor across the button, it jumps between the hand and the cursor as it hits
the blank spaces between letters. I seem to recall being able to set a hotspot
for a button to define when the button activates, but I can't seem to figure it
out.

I guess I could bypass all this if I could just do the text right in Flash. Is
there a way to do a stroke on text in Flash like in Illustrator? Like when
you create a box in Flash and it lets you select the outline or the inside.
Can I turn text into a selectable object like that?

Ok, the answer is that I'm an idiot. I got it figured out now, although I'm still curious if there's a way to Stroke text in Flash.

convert the text in flash into a shape and then apply a stroke...
