So every now and then I see some flash menu where you click a button, and the
submenu slides out underneath the button. BUT the submenu slides out on top of
the HTML page underneath the flash movie. How is this done?

Can you post a link showing an example of what you mean so we can take
a look and see what's going on?

I'm having the exact opposite problem. I have an interface that's 100% in
Flash (nested in an HTML page, of course) and I want to have an HTML layer
popup over the Flash movie. I'm calling this from inside Flash with a getURL
javascript command. The HTML window appears, but only UNDER the Flash movie,
regardless of its Z postion or if the Flash movie itself is in a DIV layer or
not.

Anyone know of a way to make an HTML layer appear over Flash or, conversly, if
this is a known un-doable?

Thanks,

Nigel

I don't think this is a Flash only issue. Meaning that I don't think
most browsers allow DIV layers to appear over the top of a plug-in or
activex control that's on the page. You can popup a new HTML window of
course or try to recreate the popup in Flash so that it's actually just
an element inside of the same Flash movie that is appearing over
everything else.

Popup blockers shouldn't effect the window.open call from within Flash
if the user has to click to execute it, so you'll be fine there.

Hi Nigel

When publishing your flash movie (file > publish settings)...click on the HTML
tag on the top of the "Publish Settings" consol. Next to the "Window Mode" text
there is a drop down menu, click on it and you will see you can select,
"window", "Opaque windowless", or "transparent windowless". click transparent
windowsless. I had the same problem and this sorted it all out.

If it doesn't work , I can't help you any more. but try my solution.

Ciao, Marc
