Author New to Flash - Modifying .swf's

I'm very new to Flash.

I have some swf's I've opened in Flash, with some active buttons (next,
back) that when click transition through 'pages'. Is it possible to edit
the content on these? I know virtually nothing right now, like if there
is a restriction preventing. Is this .swf just a compilation of
graphical images? If that's the case, then I suppose I'd require access
to those images and native program to then modify and drop back into
Flash to then recreate the .swf.. Am I right in assuming this??

Thanks

you have to find the .fla files and edit them in flash. if you dont have those
files you need to decompile the .swf files into .fla and then modify them.
when your done publish the files back into .swf format to view in a web browser
