Author Size of the swf file

Hi,

I have an swf file with size 435 KB. This contains my complete
website. The file gets almost all of its file size because of 12
photos that I have embedded in the flash file. I created these photos
in Adobe Photoshop using the "save for web" feature, so they are as
small as possible.

I guess that 435 KB is not too large for the visitors of my website to
download. I was only figuring, should I provide a preloader for my
flash movie, or is it even small enough to let it load without a
preloader? For now I have a small preloader containing a progress bar
that shows how much of the movie has been loaded.

The disadvantage of the preloader is that once the website has been
downloaded once, it resides in the cache of the browser, so the movie
takes only a fraction of a second to download and you always see the
preloader for an instance and it's gone before you know what it was.
That is not nice of course. What you also need to know is that I've
put all the stuff that will change often in an XML file (5KB) that is
loaded by the flash movie, so once the flash file is in someone's
cache, it will stay there for a pretty long time.

Anyone has an opinion on that?

Veerle
