I'm having problems with buttons I have set to go to different scenes. For
example, in object actions I've set a button to go to and play frame 41 in the
scene titled artists, but instead it goes to frame 41 in another scene. I've
also tried setting it to the <current scene> option, but that doesn't work
either. How can I fix this?

Try giving frame 41 a frame label, (select frame 41, open the property panel, and give the frame label name as myFrame41)

then for your goto and play:

gotoAndPlay("myFrame41");
