i should've gotten an answer by now
Patience young Padawan...
it is either one of two instances;
1. it can be done via AS.
or
2. It has to be a button or made into a symbol.
I haven't seen it done unless it is a button, but you may be able to do it
with ActionScript.
try for forums and answers; I don't think it can be done if no one has
answered you yet.

| Now just change the color in the rollover part of the button(the second frame).
Select the text, change the color. Simple as that. If the text is a symbol
inside of the button, add a color tint to the symbol in the frame.

| its not working. i did exactly as you said. when i tested the swf file and
placed by mouse over the button, it would change colors for less than one
second, and then change back to the original color. it also works if i place my
mouse around the button, but not on it.
anybody know why this is happening?

| If you have ONLY text inside your button the rollOver will only activate when
you rollOver the fill of the text.
When your mouse goes between the letters it then rollsOut.
To fix this you need to create a reasonable "hit" area for you button.
Go to the "hit" frame in the button.
Draw a rectangle or any other shape which covers the area of your text .
This will ensure that when you rollOver your button the "hit" area will be the
rectangle and not just the text.
Don't worry, the rectangle will not be visible.
Hope that helps.

| Is your text by any chance dynamic text? If so, you need to make it non-selectable because selectable text will take precedence over the button it is sitting on top of.

| Okay.
1. Make your text.
2. Get out of the text tool
3. Push 'v' to get the pointer tool, then right click on your text.
4. Hit "Convert to Symbol"
5. In the dialogue box, choose button.
6. Name it whatever you like.
7. Hit OK
8. Double Click on the text
9. Right click on the "Over" frame and insert a new keyframe
10. In the new keyframe, change the color of the text.
11. Grow up.

| If you continue to have problems, define the hit area of your button by
1. Double Click on your button
2. Insert keyframe in the hit frame
3. Draw a cube around the text.

| Yes that works if I want to make a rollover for standard text. But I want a link, and that won't work.

| I am having trouble understanding what it is that you want to do.
Are you trying to create a button which when pressed sends you to a new page?
This is equivalent to the HTML <a href > (Or whatever it is. Now that we have
Flash who cares about HTML? HTML is just glorified word processing).
I am thinking that this is what you're trying to replicate.
If so the button solutions that the good people on this forum have given you
should be sufficient.
All you need to add to your button is a getURL action. This will effectively
make the button a link.
Hope this was of some help.
